Body on Loan
When autumn begins its lighting round
the leaves begin a descent
from limb to crunched acres. The ground
will heave in annual event.
Below the tired foliage, life
churns slowly: cicadan wombs
entombed within an earthen midwife.
The pulsing catacomb,
where living things repurpose death
and desecrate the graves
of all that have been filled with breath
and those that died as slaves
to time, shows death is bond for now.
Soon after you have learned
to walk and roamed the earth to sow
your seed, you will return
what you have borrowed.
